MILLINGTON — Wayne Starkey is returning for a fourth term on the Millington council.
Meantime, Michelle “Shelly” Holland, who has served since 2014, did not seek re-election to what would have been a fifth term.
Since Starkey was the only candidate to meet the filing deadline of Feb. 6, the March 3 election was canceled.
According to the town charter, there is no election if the races are uncontested.
Starkey, who was first elected in 2017, will be sworn in by Mayor Kevin Hemstock at the April 14 meeting.
It will be up to the mayor and council to appoint Holland’s successor. That could happen as soon as the April meeting, according to Hemstock.
“All it needs is a council vote to approve an appointment to fill a vacancy,” he told The Evening Enterprise in an email.
Millington has a mayor and four council members. Their three-year terms are staggered. All positions are unpaid.
