Shelter Alliance to host community meeting Jan. 22

CHESTERTOWN — Are you interested in addressing homelessness with dignity and care?

Are you interested in learning about homelessness in Kent County?

These topics will be discussed Thursday, Jan. 22 at a community meeting hosted by The Shelter Alliance from 5 to 6 p.m. at Christ First United Methodist Church, 401 High St. in Chestertown. Also, the public will have an opportunity to meet the nonprofit’s Executive Director Kimrose Goodall as well as members of its board of directors.

According to a news release, Goodall will provide organizational updates and new board structure; vision and priorities for 2026, including a preview of the proposed year-round shelter; opportunities for involvement and board expansion; and announcement of a full-time position that is currently available.

Also, there will be an acknowledgment of the successes of The Shelter Closet, which celebrated its one-year anniversary earlier this month with a “blowout sale” of a $1 donation per bag of items [including clothing] for shoppers.

There are 101 individuals experiencing homelessness registered with The Shelter Closet who have received free clothing, shoes, blankets and other necessities, according to the news release. They also receive a complimentary set of personal hygiene products.

According to its mission statement, “At [The] Shelter Alliance, we are committed to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness by offering a safe and welcoming environment, along with essential services to help them rebuild their lives. Our goal is to empower individuals to regain stability and independence.”
