CHESTERTOWN — Police here on Tuesday made an arrest in a weekend arson.
Tammy Lynn Ingledue, 57, with no fixed address, was charged with arson-trash containers; malicious destruction of property having a value more than $1,000; and a felony count of malicious burning.
She initially was held in the Kent County Detention Center without bond.
The charges stem from an alleged incident at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, July 25 in the 300-block of Maple Avenue.
PFC Travis Burke of the Chestertown Police Department was on patrol near the Super Soda Center when he discovered a fire in a dumpster near the building, according to a CPD news release.
PFC Burke called for assistance from the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company before attempting, unsuccessfully, to put the fire out using his issued fire extinguisher.
Firefighters arrived shortly after being dispatched and extinguished the fire, containing it to the dumpster, according to the news release.
Follow-up investigation revealed that security cameras in the area showed a female, subsequently identified as Ingledue, walk up to the dumpster just before the fire was discovered. While on camera, the female can be seen lighting something on fire next to the dumpster, before walking away.
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal was notified.
On Monday, PFC Burke obtained a warrant for Ingledue’s arrest.
She was served the warrant on Tuesday, July 28 at about 8:30 a.m. in the area of Mill and Calvert streets and taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Following an initial appearance before a district court commissioner, Ingledue was ordered held without bond pending a bail review.
She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 26 in the District Court for Kent County; at that time a judge will determine if there is probable cause to send the case to trial.
